it was apparently used earlier this term in a discussion of slavery in a u-s history course at dayton high school. and, recently it showed up on the final exam. brian nelson says he learned of it when he asked his 17 year old son about his final grade. nelson: "he said there were some pretty disturbing images on the final that he felt pretty strongly about and he wasn't really sure how to answer them. what was described to me was that the students were supposed to write about what the artist was trying to portray in the image." nelson comes from a law enforcement family. nelson: "professional law enforcement has been suffering from a tarnished image which has been portrayed by the media and it's been increasing over the last several years. there's a number of reason for that, but this was just another attack on their integrity and it has no place in the classroom." lyon county school superintendent wayne workman says he only learned about the issue yesterday. he quickly issued an apology which read in part "we understand the offensive nature of the image

workman would not confirm that the teacher--who had taught at the school since 2013--had been fired, citing personnel privacy issues. he did say the district was taking appropriate action. nelson says all that is up to the school district. he says discussion of slavery is very appropriate in a u-s history course, but this image is not. nelson: "i doubt there are very many people who can draw any meaningful relation between that image and u-s history or slavery in any way." much of the reaction to this incident has played out on social media and the fallout continues there. this issue came to light through a local talk radio program 'armed nevada radio'. the host told us acting on complaints from students supporting the teacher, facebook has barred him from access to his own page for 24 hours. ed, thank you. solarcity says it's laid off 550 nevada employees. that's about a quarter of its workforce.

solarcity announced: it will halt the sale-and- installation of rooftop solar panels in the state. the move, one day after n-v energy cut the rate it pays solar customers for extra power. solarcity says the new rates make solar too expensive. n-v energy argues: solar customers had avoided paying some of the utility's fixed costs in the past.### las vegas data company-- switch, has begun drawing exclusively from renewable energy, to power its facilities. the company announced switched over to the complete use of renewable energy-- at the start of this year. switch has entered into an agreement with n-v energy, to use the utility's existing renewable sources, which include geo- thermal, wind, and solar. meanwhile, construction gets underway on two solar projects--- expected to be completed by the end of the year. ### will twitter get rid of its 140-character limit? speculation has been rampant. technology news service "re-code" reports the social media

to share longer content. a company official tweeted a photo of a statement reading, in part: the 140 character limit has "become a beautiful constraint," we will never lose that feeling." as of today... net-flix is in nearly every country in the world. the streaming video service is now available in 130-more countries... but several countries are still off-limits-- for now, including north korea and syria. the company says it's working to open its service in china... but will likely find challenges there as well. media content in china remains heavily censored by the government, and many websites including google, and facebook, are blocked. ### longtime journalist and book author guy clifton has been laid off from the reno-gazette journal. in a tweet just five hours ago, clifton wrote: "after 22 years at the rgj, my position has been eliminated and i'm no longer with the company." no word from the newspaper regarding why they let him go. a sacramento area

muscular dystrophy has one last wish -- he wants to see the latest 'star wars' movie before he dies. mitch ball -- who is bedridden -- says it would be a dream come true if he could see "the force awakens." stephanie cruz spoke to him. "i don't have a lot of my life." every breath, every movement, everything we take for granted... is a struggle for mitch. "it would be just so amazing to me to be able to experience that." he's only 30. in those three decades, his muscles have deteriorated... leaving him bed ridden and on life support. "it's been almost a year and a half since he's been out of this bed. pretty sad." that means his mother cares for him around the clock. "i would give anything if he

would give him something to be happy about and thankful for." around his bed, signs of a life too early to end: star wars legos... mitch's brothers assembled for him. a painting revealing his creative talent. his passions in life surround him... because he's too sick to leave his bed. ballerina who beating the odds! most every little girl dreams of growing up to be a ballerina. but for anna mott, that dream was becoming a reality. and when she was given the coveted role of clara in "the nutcracker", her friends and family knew she was destined for greatness. until.. "she started having a lot of back pain." anna was diagnosed with a rare cancerous brain tumor and the prognosis was not good. "we needed anna feeling very positive going into that surgery, we needed her fighting this. we didn't need her afraid. " and fight she did.. through two brain in her brain, 33 radiation treatments and six months of inpatient chemotherapy. and she survived. "an arabesque - now up and side.." anna was left partially completely blind. memory loss. and the love and support of her four brothers and sisters, to the surprise of many, anna regained the feeling on the left side dancing again.

" i'm holly firfer. the next winter storm is moving into the region today bringing additional snow as well as travel impacts across the sierra. anotherer weaker storm may impact the forecast area on saturday before a ridge of high pressure returns to the region early next week. short term... main change to the forecast was to add freezing fog to many valley locations and to issue a freezing fog advisory. many locations are reporting lowered

icy roads. morning commuters are urged to leave plenty of extra time for travel as roads will be extremely icy and hazardous. dense freezing fog appears to have consolidated in the vicinity of the reno airport early this morning so if you have a flight be sure to check its status before heading out. several flights were redirected and due to the dense fog and low visibility. bulk of the next storm the sierra this morning and then into midday. spillover doesnt look spectacular with this storm, so we anticipate most of the impacts and precipitation will remain in northeastern california and the sierra locations. the system is also still trending a bit farther south than the previous storm, so heaviest precipitation amounts will likely be south of highway 50 as the storm pushes into the area. looking at satellite early this morning there is quite a bit of lightning with the storm as it moves into the west coast. if convective activity continues then stronger precipitation bands could move across the sierra resulting in localized snow amounts much higher than currently forecast. winter weather advisories are in effect for the tahoe basin for this morning and for mono county

significant travel impacts will occur. details are available in the winter weather advisory products. snow showers linger from tonight through thursday, but appear to remain confined to the sierra. operational models are picking up on a weak shortwave quickly passing through the region for late thursday into friday, but there are some timing differences so forecaster confidence is relatively low. this shortwave would likely bring additional snowfall to the sierra with some travel implications. kept chances for showers in the forecast through the end of the work week. weishahn long term...saturday through wednesday... only minor changes were made to the ongoing forecast. a couple of weak systems will impact the region saturday and again tuesday, possibly followed by another storm either wednesday or thursday. overall, temperatures will remain below normal with the potential

to a victory in fresno "you're watching kolo 8 sports now with josh little." a pair of wolf pack recruits have been nominated for the mcdonald's all-american game. devearl ramsey is a 5- foot-10 point guard out of sierra canyon high school in california... he's a four-star recruit, ranked as the 106th best player in the country... he is averaging 10 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.... his trailblazers are currently ranked 19th in the country... and kenny wooten is a 6-foot-8 power forward from manteca high school... he's rated as a three- star recruit... he's averaging 14 points, 10.5 rebounds and four blocked shots per game... the wolf pack is down in fresno for tonight's game against the bulldogs... they're really good at

this season... the key for the pack is harris... he went off against nevada last season, scoring a career-high 40 points here in reno... he was named the preseason conference player of the year... and so far he's been a load... averaging 18.5 points, 4 rebounds and four assists per game... so, how will nevada slow him down? coleman: "just lindsey drew, probably. just, you know, have five guys guarding him as well. but lindsey has done an exceptional job on all team's top scorers and i feel like he will into fresno state." musselman: "well obviously their guards, everyone talks aout harris. and we've got to do a good job, we can't let him do what he did last year. so we've got to defend him and we've got to keep them off of the backboards and try not to let them get out in transition. they're really good when they're playing downhill." tipoff is at 7pm... the wolf pack is about a 7.5 point underdog at the sports books former wolf pack catcher corky miller has been added to the coaching staff of the
